In terms of health, I had Hepatitis B (already had A), Typhoid, Rabies (3 doses needed over 30 days), Yellow Fever (must be done 10 days before you go anywhere and some countries need the certificate as proof), and Japanese Encephalitis (2 doses 30 days apart). Make sure you check what you need on Fit for Travel. Also take into account that not all jabs are free and you should budget for them.

“so Lucy, what would you do if your phone and purse got stolen?”

Ah travel insurance. In the past I’ve been pretty happy to get a quote off a comparison site and roll with one of the first options. But for this trip I needed something to cover certain activities (zip lining, scuba diving etc), lost/stolen possessions, and medical support. After shopping around for a long time (habit of reading all the reviews) I felt World Nomads was a good choice for me. They specialise in policies for backpackers and also support global projects that support community development (so nice). You can get a quote for your trip below.
